Kalannie Art Trail
The Kalannie CRC is in the process of developing an art trail project, which will bring Kalannie to life through art to be featured on buildings throughout the town. With various art themes from farming, sports, wildlife and the history of the Indigenous and pioneering people.
With plans to have an interactive map available soon, here is a brief overview of our completed art projects on the Kalannie Art Trail.
The Kalannie CRC was very fortunate to have artist Brenton See here to paint the outside of our building with a vibrant wall mural. Brenton is a Perth based artist who specialises in painting native Western Australian flora and fauna and has painted many murals across the state.
The wall mural was an initiative that the CRC began working on in 2023. Going with a concept design of plants and animals known to Kalannie. The red-tailed black cockatoo, wreath leschenaultia, wattle, and an echidna. With a red strip running between each to represent the colour of Kalannie. Along with the added extra of a willy wagtail at the water fountain.

While Brenton was in town, he made a visit to Kalannie Primary School where he spoke to the kids about his art practice, while sharing photos and videos of his work.
This art project was made possible thanks to the Dalwallinu Shire who allowed us to have the Kalannie Hall and CRC building painted, and who also funded the entire project as well.
Art being a feature of Kalannie is something the CRC would like to continue with into the future.

ROAD SAFETY MURAL
We started 2024 with Brenton's mural and ended 2024 with a road safety mural. Thanks to the Road Safety Commission, artist Mel McVee and her sister Tash. This stop and rest mural is the next installment of the Kalannie Art Trail. Promoting the importance of fatigue and ensuring that people are taking adequate breaks in their busy days. Especially during the harvest season, but also for travellers and tourists taking long journeys.
We hope the bright mural attracts people passing through to pull up and take some photos on their rest stop through town.

KALANNIE MESSAGE STICKS
In 2021 we worked with Badimia Yamatji and Balladong Noongar artist Acacia Collard https://www.acaciaculturaldesigns.com/home and Badimia representative Beverly Slater. As a part of our Children's Week message sticks event. With a theme that focused on a childrens sense of belonging and showing a connection with family, community and country. It was the first placement of vibrant artwork in the main street as a part of the Kalannie Art Trail.
This is an ongoing project where Kalannie residents current and past are invited to paint a section on the message sticks. Using symbolism that shows their family and connection to Kalannie.
